7 Easy Keto Diet Hacks

Tips and Tricks for Keto Success
I don’t know if the hardest part of weight loss is losing the weight or actually keeping it off once it’s gone. The ketogenic diet is one of the easiest eating plans I’ve ever used and I’ve got the best keto diet hacks to help turn your body into a fat burning machine. These are great whether you’re just starting the keto diet or you’ve hit a plateau and need a jump start to get you back into ketosis.

Keto Diet Hack 1 – Intermittent Fasting
I like to plan intermittent fasting during the week. It fits well into my schedule when I’m working during the week and then I can loosen it up a little on the weekends.
The most popular form of intermittent fasting is the 16:8 method and it’s the one that I follow. I fast for 16 hours and then eat during the 8 hour window, and yes, the time that you spend sleeping counts. Doesn’t that make it so much easier?
Intermittent Fasting can be a great way to break habits like eating at a specific time just because it’s lunchtime or dinnertime, or snacking when you’re not really hungry. I find that my calories are more limited just by limiting the hours that I consume them. I don’t even have to think about it so that’s a win, I just eat between 11-7 each day, nothing before and nothing after.

Keto Diet Hack 2 – Bulletproof Coffee (Keto Coffee)
One of the best ways to get fat into your diet, and get a coffee fix at the same time, is bulletproof coffee. I also find it’s a great way to avoid hunger. The key to this coffee is adding fat into it so that it takes awhile to digest. This helps you feel full longer and have more energy. I like to add coconut oil (and a dash of cinnamon) to my coffee in the morning and then I find that I’m not hungry for several hours.
MCT (multi-chain triglyceride) oil is highly recommended for adding to keto coffee, but it can be pricey so spend some time studying it if you’re interested. Butter or coconut oil are also a good fat to add.

Keto Diet Hack 3 – Eat More Fat
The keto diet is based around consuming a low amount of carbs and a high amount of fat. It can be hard to reconcile this in our minds since we’ve been taught to eat so differently and it can sometimes be hard to consume enough fat over the course of the day.
When I’m feeling hungry I know that I need to step up my fat intake. One of the quickest ways to add more fat is with an avocado or nuts. Always be sure to measure nuts so that you don’t over consume, but they will add a satisfying crunch to your diet. In the beginning you may have a lot of cravings to overcome and adding in more fats will definitely help cut the sugar addiction.
Keto Diet Hack 4 – Fat Bombs
Fat Bombs are a pre-measured treat that is very high in fat and very low in carbs. Fat bombs are a great way to add more fat into your diet during the day as a snack or as a quick breakfast. Many of them can be made ahead and stored and some use as few as 3 ingredients. They basically contain a healthy fat, a flavoring and a texture (such as nuts).
Think about how small children like to eat butter by itself? Well that’s a fat bomb. I mean if you haven’t tried the kerrygold butter then you don’t know what you’re missing. I like to use fat bombs as my dessert, a little fat treat at the end of the day.

Keto Diet Hack 5 – Drink More Water
If you’re hungry, you might actually be thirsty. If you’re tired, you might actually be thirsty.
Hear me out, I know it doesn’t seem right, but many times when I think I’m hungry I really need to drink more water. This is especially true on the Ketogenic diet, which is diuretic by nature. By replenishing electrolytes you’ll feeling more energetic and it will help keep you in ketosis. I love to add some Mio drops to my water when I get tired of just drinking water. (Which is always, since I prefer coffee).
Keto Diet Hack 6 – Clean Your Pantry
There are two parts to this tip – remove and add.
Remove all the high carb items from your house because out of sight is out of mind.
Well not really, but out of sight does make it harder and that can be helpful. It’s much easier to stick to any eating plan if you don’t have a bunch of food around that’s going to derail you. Once you get past all the cravings it’s much easier to stick to the keto plan, but in the beginning you may need to take more drastic measures.
Add sugar free sauces, high fat dressings and healthy fats to your pantry.
One of the easiest ways to add flavor to any meal is with seasonings and salt. Be sure to add fats and fat bombs to your pantry and stock up on foods that will make it easier for you to stick to the plan.

Keto Diet Hack 7 – Exercise
I know, I know. I don’t like to exercise either. I’m not saying you have to go for a full on workout, it can just be a walk around the neighborhood. Or a walk through the park, really anything to get up and be active. Surprisingly, I usually feel so much better after I’ve taken a brisk walk.
Since starting keto, my family hasn’t missed bread or pasta, and we’ve found that cauliflower is a great substitution for potatoes. Loaded cauliflower might even taste better than mashed potatoes. Click here to see how I survived the first week of keto.
